Immersion : Emergence
A collaboration is underway with international wild swimmer, Denise Wilkin. Denise swims in open expanses of water in unconventional places, including the sea, rivers, lakes, docks and sea estuaries.
This theme has been on-going but this further episode focusses more closely on immersion and emergence including the performative aspects of Denise's swimming and the context that is set in.
This research-based project investigates the repeated immersion and subsequent emergence (of Denise's body ), metaphorically, pointing to the moving into and out of a variety of 'immersive' experiences throughout life. An on-going exploration that is in the sphere of ambivalence, focussing on the process , that is of merger and of being separate, of fear and freedom.
My plans are to develop my project with natural expanses of water by exploring the physical movements of Denise when becoming immersed, emerging from the water and then re-entering the water, in a cyclic movement.
Conversations about Denise's subjective experience will also be integral and a body of work will develop out of and alongside these investigations.
